25th Edinburgh Doors Open Day

Posted on 19 Aug 2015 by Marion

This year we celebrate our 25th Edinburgh Doors Open Day event, organised by the Cockburn Association to celebrate the architecture, heritage and the built and natural environment of this beautiful city.

I am pleased to announce that our main sponsors this year are City & Country and Arts & Business Scotland and I am sure you will join me in welcoming their support. I also thank Baillie Gifford as we come to the third and final year of funding agreed with them, Brown Shipley for their continuing support and the City of Edinburgh Council for their contribution.

The brochure will be sent out to our members this week and available from our office and other outlets from 1 September. The theme is Food & Drink Edinburgh and many of the venues and activities will reflect this. We have the successful series of free talks, walks and tours. You will find them listed in the brochure, I’m sure they will be popular again this year and advise that you book your place.

For the past four years we have had a sponsored Run/Walk for Doors Open Day. David, Emelie, Graham and Val have raised over £1,000 each year – a generous contribution towards the event. This year David, my son, will be taking part the Berlin Marathon on the weekend of our event, I hope you will sponsor him, as generously as you feel able to, in support of his effort and our fundraising.

The Doors Open Day Raffle has some really wonderful prizes kindly donated to help us raise funds. Tickets are available from our office to buy and to sell to your friends. Please return the stubs and payment by 28 October so they can be entered into the draw on 29 October. If you would like tickets just let us know and we will send them to you.

It is a challenge each year to raise the funds for organising this event, I am grateful to our main sponsors and also thank Baillie Gifford as we come to the third and final year of funding agreed with them, Brown Shipley for continuing support and the City of Edinburgh Council for their contribution. Thank you also to the private individuals who contribute by donation and those who support our raffle and fundraising.

Keep in touch via our website www.cockburnassociation.org.uk, Facebook and Twitter for up to date information on Edinburgh Doors Open Day and on our work, activities and latest news.

I hope you enjoy Edinburgh Doors Open Day 2015 and I look forward to your feedback.
