New Chair of the Association sought

Posted on 15 Jan 2016 by Marion

The Rt Hon Lord Brodie has served the Cockburn Association as Chair for eight years. He has notified Cockburn Council of his intention to stand down at our AGM in June this year.

We are therefore seeking a suitably qualified person to take on the role. The Association works to protect and enhance the amenity and character of Edinburgh’s built and natural environment. Last year we responded to over 260 planning applications, 12 local authority and Scottish Government consultations, organised the 25th Edinburgh Doors Open Day generating 67,400 visits to 130 sites and led campaigns on a number of high profile issues including Edinburgh’s Green Belt, the new St James development and proposals for the Old Royal High School.

The role: With a new strategy approved by members at last year’s AGM the role will be to provide focused leadership, establish and monitor strategy and policy objectives and ensure that Cockburn Council decisions are acted upon. A key goal will be to ensure that the Council, management team, and staff work together to achieve our ambitious shared goals.

The person: As a communicator and ambassador, they will also bring proven experience of working with a Board as a Non-Executive Director or Trustee. Excellent leadership skills, an ability to develop strategic plans, provide guidance to senior management, and monitor performance are also important, as is the reality of leading a small charity in challenging times.

How to apply: For an application pack, for further information, or for a confidential discussion about the role, contact Richard Rodger, richard.rodger@ed.ac.uk; 07544 884402. Applications no later than Monday 15 February, should be sent to Cockburn Association, Trunk’s Close, 55 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SR, marked “Chair, Confidential”. Applications will be handled in complete confidence.
